Update April 30 Chat

PPP updates continued to be a strong topic as many members on the call have, and are now still receiving their PPP loan funds.
There was discussion concerning the audit provision if your organization receives 2 million or more in funding and that organizations who have received funds from the first traunch have until May 7 to return funds if you don't need them. That prompted a deeper discussion about the process individual member companies are using to determine if they will "keep" or "return" received PPP funds at some point during the next 8 weeks or at the end of the period. There is a growing concern that the rules for PPP may be in flux and that the "deal" may continue to evolve. Stay tuned as this is a fluid situation.
There was discussion about a variety of strategies to manage the payroll number over the next 8 weeks, such as increases to encourage employees to stay on the job paid in real time or at the end of the 8 weeks, as a bonus for "staying".
The topic of mask use in the shop was brought up and a number of members shared their experiences and practices.
From the group on the call there is still no COVID-19 in a plant, but there is exposure at home so some members have had to deal with the issues arising from the home exposure complications. This led to a discussion as to what members are doing to clean and sanitize their workplaces on the large scale.
There is a loophole in Work Share states that you can learn about how to allow employees to get paid for the hours they work, collect diminished unemployment benefits for the hours they don't, and STILL take advantage of the government's $600/week supplement. The article "Quirk in coronavirus relief law gives full $600 a week even to workers facing only cut hours" from the LA Times is here:

Next Barcoding production materials was discussed and a number of members who are currently using shop floor barcoding for materiel control shared source information with those who wished to learn more.
Lastly ABMA staff was asked to keep the recent survey going with updates every two weeks through the end of June. Look for a new ABMA COVID-19 Survey mid next week.
